If you know me, you may know about my potentially unhealthy obsession with bedding. There is no point even getting into quilts and sheets because I don't like to rant. SO I will talk about one aspect of the obsession, namely Wool Blankets. I have a few brands that I adore, although the best is when you come across a good quality 100% wool find at the second hand store.
So I saw a preview for this show the other day, probably while watching an infomercial or a dancing with the stars re run, and thought it was a joke. In the end, it is an actual show that will be embarrassing airing in Canada Sunday September 18 ... But who am I to judge?
Check out a couple of my (ahem) favourite auditions...
This actually did make me think though... cover songs are either amazing (sometimes even better than the original) OR ridiculous (cue too many american idol moments)
So I decided to share a couple of covers that I've heard recently.
NOTE: Under normal circumstances the following original version of these songs make me LMAO because of their use in Bulworth and 13 going on 30 the worst movies of all time.
BUT in the case of the first I get shiiivveeerrrss its so good and in the case of the second...it just makes me remember when i was 14 and listening to bands like good charlotte and thinking they were the coolest.
Sitting at the beach last weekend minding my own business when this lovely lady decided to make my day... and I thought I knew some big Bon Jovi fans...
As past creative director for Dior, Valentino, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garcons, Louis Vuitton, Georgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Gucci, Lanvin ...the list goes on... it seems natural that this Canadian born artist has been named Yves Saint Laurent's new International Make-up Artist.
Inspired by feathers and flowers and everything nice ... his first effort is definitely worth checking out. Gorgeous colours and new textures that bring his experience from ballet and theatre into perfect harmony with a ready-to-wear line. la-la-love it.
Soo if anyone has been to the Bay (yes...the department store) in the past couple years you may have noticed a drastic change in their buying style. I have always loved their classic line of "bay gear" teehee but recently I have also been loving their ability to find cool new brands providing a shopping experience reminiscent of Bloomingdales. a.k.a brands like Free People, Beyond Vintage, See by Chloe, Halston Heritage etc...
AND NOW they are introducing "the room" which will showcase over 70 high end designers. There is already a "room" in Toronto at the downtown location which, by the way, also features a healthy selection of lines only available at Topshop...one of my fave NYC shopping spots, comparable to H&M.
The Room opens in Vancouver late fall 2011....
Basically it is a luxury department designed to rival Holts as the sole provider of luxury in Canada.
Nothing like depleting a healthy bank account at one of Canada's oldest establishments. hehe. i kid.
Just like classic Hunter boots, Barbour jackets have been a british fave for over 100 years!
Practical for Fall I fell for the Olive coloured flyweight version with tartan lining...mmm...and much more affordable than their high-end competition (burberry!).
Last weekend we went for the opening day of the Hot Air Balloon Festival in St Jean Sur Richelieu! There must have been a couple hundred thousand people that showed up for LMFAO & Ke$ha in the evening. The view from the top of the Ferris Wheel was craazy! Fun stuff.
A lot of times I find myself saying "you can't make this stuff up" SO I am going to start a new weekly post to share the disbelief...this first one is a doozy.
Riddle: What is sweet and savory and only 1500 calories per serving????
Find out after the jump..... (that means you have to click the "read more" button... hehe)
SO one of my many aspirations when it comes to fashion is to own the Hermes Kelly (along with of course the Birkin and Constance)
Unfortunately I am apparently not lucky enough to be sent one...even to take it apart, take a photo, make a book, and send it back to Hermes... darn.
Swiss journalist Jeroen van Roiijen, on the other hand, was sent so many classic fashion icons (such as Kelly) that he was able to put out a book called ZERLEGT ... or for any of you that have not yet become fluent in German..."disassembled".
Check out more photographers that are more interested in taking things apart then putting them together after the jump!
If you were at Jazz Fest, on the Plateau, in St Henri or noticed a bright green truck with a lineup of trendy looking foodies anywhere else in the city you are already familiar with Grumman '78.

OR If you can find 50 friends willing to spend $20 each you can rent out their AMAZING pop up space in St Henri... 630 Rue de Courcelle (they will rent it out to up to 150 ppl! for $1000 minimum)

Sometimes, on Monday's, I find myself mindlessly searching the internet for some sign of humour left in this world. I assume this is because Monday's are the worst day of the week. Except when I change my work days and Monday quickly becomes the best day of the week followed by Tuesday ... (the worst)
ANYWAY
I am officially posting something that I find that usually has to do with nothing but pretty much gets me through whichever day of the week happens to mark the end of my weekend. Hope it works for you too!
She isn't Canadian but I couldn't resist posting about these beautiful embroidered penguin covers to be released October 2011. Jillian Tamaki is an amazing artist who was approached by Penguin to create these original covers. Mass produced copies will be available in bookstores, hopefully in Canada!!
Last year was my first time attending the Rogers Cup in Montreal and it was amazing to see these incredible athletes in such a small venue. It was the girls turn in Montreal so we watched Wozniacki take first place. THIS YEAR is the men in Montreal...being at stade Uniprix is exciting but I'm used to watching hockey so the crowd was a bit tamer (obvs)...except for the roaring cheer when Nadal lost his shirt after an hour of 37 degree heat... funny thing about that. Anyway I am super excited to see the men play this year and thanks to my boss I will be going at least twice in the next couple weeks!
The funny thing is that you never know who you will see play since the schedule is only put out after you purchase your tickets. In fact, we had no idea what to expect on Saturday only to find out that both NADAL and DJOKOVIC were on the schedule... lucky us
