Marshall McLuhan by Douglas Coupland

As Promised...

for more info on McLuhan check out the latest addition to the Penguin collection conveniently written by another canadian Douglas Coupland - a vancouver based writer - most known for his book Generation X.

I say it is convenient because McLuhan was a scholar whose work is more often quoted than read... Coupland explains why in an interview by the Paris Review : "Like most people, I only knew his three clichés: Medium equals message, global village, and the scene from Annie Hall. I’ve found that most people truly would like to know more about the man, but it’s almost impossible to do. His language is a universe unto itself and is astonishingly dense and hard to navigate."

Even so...his language is still worth looking into and Coupland offers an entertaining translation of his best stuff. I recommend!
